Here's an invention from Astley Packer, our longstanding Cuisenaire Rods supplier.

Astley was having guitar lessons, when the subject of transposition came up. A twist of the mouth, a deep breath and a scratch of the nose meant that here was something that had to be dealt with! At the next lesson, Astley produced a prototype MasterKey, much to the astonishment of his teacher and the amazement of his fellow pupils.

Encouraged by his teacher, Frank Holdforth, and the response to his appearance on "The Inventors" on ABC TV in Australia, Astley developed MasterKey into a fully professional, quality product, which, along the way, was recognised at the 1980 International Inventions Exhibition in Geneva.

Slide Rule in format and feel, MasterKey removes much of the mystery associated with music theory, by enabling all musicians, music teachers and music students to:

Transpose. With one quick adjustment, MasterKey shows you all the notes or chord names in the "old key" alongside all of the equivalents in the "new key."

Chords. MasterKey gives you the framework to play the most essential and popular chords, in any key.

Scales. Major, minor, pentatonic, blues ... all have distinctive "shapes." MasterKey removes all of the mystery by graphically showing you these patterns, in any key.
