Carpe Diem: Seize the Calendar!

These authentic Chinese calendars carry one page for every day of the year. Each day requires a fresh rip ... and each newly revealed (numerically very blunt) page signfies a fresh start. Very satisfying.

Some people keep significant pages in memory of the day. Some people even have them framed. We've even heard of a Mum who wraps her son's little lunch in the day's page.

We've been obsessed with these calendars for many years, but only recently have we managed to get supplied in any quantity with one that we really liked. Not all Chinese calendars are created equal. This version is actually made in Hong Kong and it's a nice one. The paper is thin, but not too thin; and the typography is bold & san serif. (Each year the typography seems to change slightly. This is a mystery.)

We're only planning to take delivery of a small quantity of these this year. So, here's our suggestion: Don't risk disappointment. Now they're available, order your 2010 calendar(s) STRAIGHT AWAY.

| Longtime Family Obsession
Roman's birthday (23 December 1998) is framed and on our living room wall. Lola's birthday (20 March 1995) lives somewhere in one of our glory boxes, along with many other green numbered pages: anniversaries, store birthdays, and sundry other family milestones stretching back 10 or 20 years. But, it hasn't made me blasé about the visual. I still get a thrill when I see them hanging out the back in Chinese restaurants or laundries.

Love the look of the calendar, but it's not spot on for telling the day and date. Take 24 February 2007 - on this calendar it's a Sunday. But hang on, so's 25 February. And 23 February? That's down as a Saturday, except it should be Friday. Inscrutable indeed.
