This one is pretty weird. Based on technology developed by a laboratory connected to the US Military in around 1975.

By flexing the activator disk within the fluid-filled pack, the friction caused acts as a catalyst that creates an exothermic reaction. The transformation of the molecular structure from a liquid to a solid state releases a steady heat for around 30 minutes for this portable version.

This "Shin Bio Heat Pack" contains non-toxic sodium acetate (salt'n'vinegar!), a form of highly concentrated saline which generates heat to a safe 54ÂșC in a matter of seconds. The heat generated provides therapeutic benefits in relieving various muscular, ligament or tendon aches and pains, discomforts or injuries.

And it's resusable! As the process is a physical change and not a chemical reaction, the exothermic reaction can be "activated" an unlimited number of times. You just place the used and hardened pack into a pot of boiling water for 5 to 15 minutes or until the pack becomes completely liquified (wrapped in a tea towel to ensure that the pack doesn't make contact with the pot). You can do this hundreds or even thousands of times. With proper care, the packs should last about 5 to 10 years.

The Shin Bio Heat Packs can also be used as cold packs. Simply place in the fridge in liquid form for about one hour. As the salt water has a freezing temperature much lower then the freezer setting, even in the freezer it will not freeze and become ice. Hence, it is always a cold pack not an ice pack.

+ Small Heat Pack: 130 mm x 90 mm. Perfectly designed to fit into your pocket, car or office drawer. Comes in handy when away from home. Excellent as a hand warmer too!

This is very awesome indeed! Just wondering though ... I bought a small pack, and was a smidge bummed it only stayed hot for a little over 1/2 hr... could this have been because i was marvelling and poking and proding a bit too much?!... :) ~ wondering if those in the know can help re: the liklihood of it staying hot for longer perhaps after I boil it and go again?! Still love it though - planning to go bigger & better sometime soon'ish! :)

Mel Telfer has given this product a 5 star rating | love the instructions...
Fantastic item, and the instructions really take it to another place. Printed on the pack is "Made in Australia", yet the instructions contain the sort of grammar one expects from thrice-translated Chinese imports eg. "Boil the pack inside boiling water (in saucepan or pat) for 5-10 minutes. Until it becomes completely clear." Someone's had some fun here.

Jenny Cox

Jenny Cox has given this product a 5 star rating | Too much fun but a great gadget.
I bought a small one to test it out. It really works - very cool (sorry, hot). A bit tricky to move without accidentally setting it off, though the main problem is stopping the kids - its really fun to watch it work!

Great hit with my partner. The heat just hit the spot on her sore shoulder. Easy to activate and stays hot for an hour. Much praise for Shin Bio.

Got this yesterday and spent the first 5 second after getting home from work setting it off.. It now comes with instructions.. easy as pie.. it heated up fast and stayed hot for an hour or so.. feels good for lower back. To reset it you need to boil it in hot water..no problems and then it can be used again.. I highly reccommend!

Graeme Romans

Graeme Romans has given this product a 4 star rating | Nifty
Although the heater needs heat to restore it, once done it can be stored ready to use in seconds. Invaluable for people with inflammatory arthritis who can't sleep and want to grab it from the bedside table without getting up !

Maggie Wojciechowska

Maggie Wojciechowska has given this product a 3 star rating | Good product, shame about the instructions
The product once you work it out is genuinely very cool. Good for people with arthritis etc, and probably good for science classes as well. The problem is that it comes with no instructions, so you're left playing with this pack until you either stumble across the answer, or you find it on the internet (as we did). There's a little metal

Nerida Haycock

Nerida Haycock has given this product a 1 star rating | I thought it was good, but I've changed my mind
I thought this would be an excellent, cheaper alternative to the Peacock pocket warmers when camping - but I didn't think about the boiling aspect (if you're using gas, you'll go through it pretty quickly if you're leaving it going for 20 minutes each time), and the fact that it only stays hot for about an hour. While it seems like a neat idea at first, from a reliable report I've received (thanks, Kel) this product may have some problems.

I found the REMO website while looking for pictures of a red fez. I am about to do a home brew and decided to name the beer 'red fez'. There is something about the fez, the romance, the mystique. Became intrigued with the whole REMO thing, the business plan, the history, the designs etc. I lecture so thought that some of the shirts would be just great for class.
