THE NATIONAL KARAOKE CHALLENGE is a weekly half-hour state-by-state sing-off to find Australia's Karaoke Champion screening on SBS Television each Saturday night at 7.00PM (and repeated late).

Following a nation-wide search for state finalists, with over 1,000 auditionees turning up at venues in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Hobart, Adelaide, Darwin and Perth, THE NATIONAL KARAOKE CHALLENGE is set to uncover Australia's Karaoke Champion.

Six contestants will be selected from each city to compete in the heats for their city. The heats will be filmed live and the winner of each heat and the National Champion will be decided by the home viewers via SMS and phone voting.

Karaoke is skyrocketing as a national entertainment in Australia, with 800 venues across the country regularly running karaoke nights. THE NATIONAL KARAOKE CHALLENGE is about ordinary Australians getting up and having a go.

Hosted by Maurie Annese, THE NATIONAL KARAOKE CHALLENGE will be shot live in Melbourne, Hobart, Adelaide, Sydney, Perth, Brisbane and Darwin in suburban clubs to capture the authentic atmosphere of live karaoke. The finals will be held in Sydney and screened in December 2004.

About four years ago, I noticed a friend of mine wearing a cool t-shirt at the pub. I spied the word "Remo" hidden somewhere in the middle. Recently, that word popped back into my conscious mind after lying dormant for so long, and I punched it into a search engine.... the rest is history, and my boyfriend now has his very own Organ Locator t-shirt!
