This remarkable thing is a working reproduction of a vintage tin device. Strange as it looks, it is actually a functional and accurate multiplying machine.

The monkey is perched above a pyramid of numbers. When you point his feet at the numbers on the bottom, his monkey hands move and show you the multiple of those two numbers in a little window.

The calculator was patented June 27, 1916, by William Robertson, of Belmont, Ohio, and assigned to the Educational Novelty Company, Dayton, Ohio.

And as it says on the old box:

"IT MAKES NO DIFFERENCE TO THE MONKEY WHETHER CHILDREN ARE BRIGHT OR STUPID, HE NEVER LOSES PATIENCE AT HAVING TO ANSWER THEIR QUESTIONS."

Welcome back, REMO. I was first introduced to your store while visiting Sydney with my friend and "sponsor" Jay Wolff in 1996. And ever since that day, I've been delightfully addicted to the Thursday Plantation Tea Tree Oil toothpicks you sold me. My three year old daughter still plays with the multi-language wooden blocks I bought from REMO as well. And I must say, I still get annoyed every time I walk into a RESTORATION HARDWARE here in the U.S. I've always thought their store is basically just a shameful rip-off of REMO. So here's to your successful return as one of the most original and rewarding retail experiences a shopper could ever hope to find on his or her search for something decidedly different. Every Good Wish... Trey Callaway
