Born in Saumur, Maine-et-Loire, fashion designer Gabrielle (Coco) Chanel (1883-1971) dominated Parisian fashion for nearly 60 years.
Think: turtleneck sweaters, pea jackets, costume jewelry, graceful jersey suits, "the little black dress," bobbed hair and a famous perfume (Chanel No.5) with a very unorthodox scent: Women are not flowers. Why should they want to smell like flowers?
